Turnitin Guide

What is Turnitin

Turnitin is a text-matching and plagiarism detection software that helps instructors and school administrators identify unoriginal work. Turnitin has algorithms to detect similarities or matches against other submissions and information sources in the Turnitin database. Turnitin’s database includes the world’s largest collection of internet, academic, and student paper content.

Turnitin helps students in their academic writing by providing instant feedback to aid them in discovering potential errors in their work so they will have enough time to correct them as required before they hand in their assignments to the instructor/professor. It also helps students develop academic honesty and curtail bad habits in writing their assignments and other course requirements.

When you submit an assignment in AnimoSpace and run it through Turnitin, you will have full access to the Turnitin originality report. Simply click on the percentage (similarity index) number to open the Turnitin report.

Plagiarism Spectrum 2.0

The Plagiarism Spectrum identifies twelve (12) types of plagiarism based on findings from a worldwide survey of nearly 900 secondary and higher education instructors. Each type has been given an easy-to-remember moniker to help students and instructors better identify and discuss the ramifications of plagiarism in student writing

New additions to the list are student collusion, software-based text modification, contract cheating, computer code plagiarism, and data plagiarism.
