Seeking the right information: About IamInfoSMART

Rationale

In response to PAASCU recommendation on “creative awareness about the availability of the user education program to other research-oriented classes,” the DLSU Libraries launched its Information Literacy Campaign, dubbed as IamInfoSMART in November 2013 to foster the development of information literate students in pursuit of lifelong learning.

Mission

To make every Lasallian information literate for them to become independent, lifelong learner

Objectives

  • To equip students with the necessary skills, which will aid them in becoming lifelong learners
  • To raise awareness on the importance of IL being a vital component of lifelong learning
  • To ensure that Lasallian students are able to find, evaluate and apply the information in pursuit of academic and research excellence
  • To make learning IL skills more fun and interactive

Information Literate Students

The information literate DLSU student must have the ability to (ARCL, 2000):

  • "Recognize the need for information and determine the nature and extent of the information needed
  • Find needed information effectively and efficiently
  • Critically evaluate information and the information seeking process; manage information collected or generated
  • Apply prior and new information to construct new concepts or create new understandings
  • Use information with understanding and acknowledge cultural, ethical, economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information” 

Expect Outcomes

  • Increased awareness on the Libraries’ facilities, information resources and services
  • More patrons taking advantage of library programs/services
  • Information literate students
  • Well utilized information resources and online search tools
  • Increased usage to the subscribed online plagiarism detection tool
