Seeking the right information: Refine the search results

Module 2: How do I search?

Refine your search results

After performing a search, you need to evaluate the results as the research process is an iterative one, that is you do a search, select the best reference, and then search again using the knowledge you gained from your previous search.

At this stage your goals are to:
  • know if you were able to retrieve information sources relevant to your research needs by matching your keywords in title, abstract, and subject, or skimming the table of contents
  • manipulate the list of results to get the most appropriate sources
Explore the image below -- mouseover the targets to learn more about the different ways of refining your result list.
